“Ferroelectric BiFeO3 and BaTiO3 photocatalysts for photoelectrochemical water splitting”
This review examines using ferroelectric materials to boost photocatalytic water splitting, a sustainable hydrogen production method. Ferroelectrics' internal electric fields improve charge separation by manipulating band bending, directing electrons and holes to redox sites. Studies show that materials like BiFeO3 and BaTiO3, when combined with catalysts, significantly enhance water oxidation and hydrogen evolution. By effectively managing charge carrier movement, ferroelectric materials offer a promising strategy to improve solar energy conversion in photocatalytic systems.
